Guardians vs. Mariners Prediction and Odds for Saturday, August 27 (Pitching Prevails in Pacific Northwest)
By Josh Yourish
It's been a low-scoring series in the Pacific Northwest as the Seattle Mariners took the first two games 3-1 and 3-2 against the Cleveland Guardians. Now, their newly acquired ace, Luis Castillo heads to the mound looking to secure a series win in the penultimate game.
Castillo makes his fifth start in a Mariners uniform and is opposed by Zach Plesac for the Guardians.
Let’s take a look at the latest odds.
Guardians vs. Mariners Odds, Run Line and Total
Guardians vs. Mariners Prediction and Pick
Castillo had his first struggle as a Mariner and took his first loss for Seattle last time out. After two pretty stellar outings, Castillo allowed four runs in five innings against Oakland. He is looking to bounce back tonight and comes in with a 2.93 ERA and a 3.15 fielding independent pitching.
Zach Plesac had a very similar start in his last trip to the mound. Four earned runs in 5.1 innings. That came in a loss to Detroit. So, both starting pitchers are coming off of bad starts against the two worst offenses in the entire league. The difference is that Plesac’s ERA is 4.43 not sub three.
Both teams have pitched really well over the past 10 games with 2.40 ERA for Cleveland and a 2.67 ERA for Seattle. The past week they have had two of the worst offenses, ranking 20th and 22nd in OPS 27th and 26th in runs scored. All signs point to another game that is going to go under.
It's bounce back starts from two pitchers who need the boost and a series that hasn’t featured much offense at all. I feel good about the under, but I know if it loses this game won’t finish at eight runs it’ll be like 15 or 20. They could both be due, but it is too hard to try to predict an offensive outburst like that.
PICK: Under 7.0 (-115)
