AL Central rivals, the Detroit Tigers and Cleveland Guardians, are set to do battle in Game 2 of their four-game weekend series on Friday at Comerica Park. Both of these teams have been massively disappointing so far this year and are fighting to tread water in the division. The Guardians currently lead Detroit in the standings, but neither team is anywhere near .500.

The Guardians continue to lose to bad teams after splitting games with Detroit last week and going 0-2 against the Reds in the series before that. Normally I would say the Tigers are a perfect squad to help a team get back on track. But, the Guardians are playing so badly that might not be the case.

Guardians vs. Tigers Prediction and Pick

While both of these teams are suffering, I can’t place much blame on today’s starters.

Shane Bieber has been very good for the Guardians with a 3.55 ERA and 1.25 WHIP in 45 ⅔ innings. Those are decent marks, but Bieber has been better than those numbers suggest. His stats are skewed heavily thanks to a disastrous start against the Blue Jays a few weeks back. Removing that game from the equation leaves Bieber with an ERA closer to 2.50. Bieber comes off a strong start against this same Detroit team on Sunday after firing seven strong innings of a two-run ball. He struck out 10 and walked two. Sadly, as has been the case a number of times this year, the Guardians squandered that quality start and lost 4-2.

The Tigers counter with Alex Faedo tonight as the righty makes his fifth start of the year. Faedo has been solid and consistent with a 3.00 ERA and 1.33 WHUP in 21 innings. The Rookie’s K/BB rate of 2.3 is a bit low, but so far he’s navigated around those issues.

I think that if Faedo can keep it together, this game could be a slow one at the plate for both sides. Bieber looks very good right now and neither team has a strong offense to battle back with.

Pick: UNDER 7 (+110)
