Guardians vs. Tigers Prediction and Odds for Wednesday, August 10 (Guardians Ready for First Place)
By Joe Summers
Tell your friends, tell your family, tell your neighbors! The Cleveland Guardians are tied for first place in the AL Central!
After becoming the resident Cleveland Guardians fan throughout the season, I'm thrilled to see this club tied for a playoff spot with the Minnesota Twins. Minnesota is in a series with the vaunted Dodgers, so Cleveland has a huge opportunity to take sole possession of first place with Aaron Civale taking on the Detroit Tigers today.
Civale makes his first start since returning from injury, though he was impressive in a rehab start in the minors. He compiled a 3.21 ERA in July, but struggled in the months prior.
Detroit turns to Drew Hutchison, who allowed just three runs total over his last two starts but has terrible underlying metrics.
Can Cleveland take advantage of today's opportunity or will Detroit play spoiler to its division foe? Let's check out the odds from WynnBET Sportsbook to help find out:
Guardians vs Tigers Odds, Run Line and Total

- Tigers +1.5 (-120)

Guardians vs Tigers Prediction and Pick
The Guardians have three straight wins, allowing just three runs total in that span, and I'm confident they'll come out focused today with the AL Central division lead on the line.
Truthfully, I have no idea what they'll get from Aaron Civale today. He could be dominant, like when he allowed just one run over seven innings against Kansas City in his last full start before injury, or he could struggle. I'm inclined to think he'll be good, but I don't know.
What I do know, however, is that Drew Hutchison will be bad. His 5.34 expected ERA is a horrible mark and he's got a FIP (Fielding Independent Pitching) over 5.65 in two of his last three starts. For reference, Marco Gonzales has the worst FIP of all qualified pitchers at 5.11. So yeah, Hutchison is terrible.
Just look at his MLB Statcast Pitching Profile and tell me Cleveland isn't winning today:
Cleveland has the seventh-best OPS against right-handed pitchers on the road over the last three weeks while Detroit ranks 28th.
Trust the Guardians to roll to a resounding victory behind a strong return from Civale and a poor effort from Hutchison.
Pick: Guardians -1.5 (+100)
