The New York Yankees and Cleveland Guardians are set to meet for the second game of their three-game set on Saturday afternoon in the Bronx.

The Guardians entered the tilt on a bit of a hot streak with three wins in a row after sweeping the White Sox. Chicago is expected to be one of the better teams in the league and the sweep was quite impressive by Cleveland. They certainly have the momentum heading into this series in New York.

Meanwhile, the Yankees haven’t looked great out of the gate. But, they did take two of three from Detroit heading into this series.

The starters for this game have been announced as Kirk McCarthy for the Guardians and Nestor Cortes for the Yankees.

Here are the odds for this game, courtesy of WynnBET Sportsbook.

Guardians vs. Yankees Prediction and Pick

At first, I was confused as to why the Guardians were such massive underdogs in this game. They are playing better right now after all. But, my questions were answered when I looked into Kirk McCarty. What I found was a whole lot of nothing. And that told me a lot. See, McCarty will be making his MLB debut for the Guardians tomorrow.

McCarty is not exactly a highly touted prospect and is making his debut at the ripe age of 26. He spent last year at the AAA level and finished with a 5.01 ERA  in 124 innings of work. Frankly, he’s just too much of an unknown to take a flier on. Even with as well as the Guardians have been playing. He does have a 0.79 ERA in 11 ⅓ innings in the International League this year. But he’s still a huge question mark.

Meanwhile, Nestor Cortes has been lights out for the Yankees. And doing it at the MLB level no less. Cortes has spent 9 ⅓ scoreless innings on the mound this season with 17 strikeouts and just one walk. This pace can’t keep up, but the Yankees may have struck gold with the righty. He was phenomenal last year too with a 2.90 ERA and 1.08 WHIP in 93 innings. He’s picked up right where he left off and I don’t think the Guardians will be able to do enough damage to keep pace.
