The New York Yankees and Cleveland Guardians are set to close out their three-game series on Sunday afternoon in the Bronx. The Yankees will start Gerritt Cole on Sunday. Who knows what to expect with this guy after the season he’s been having. 

The Guardians, on the other hand, swept the White sox in three games before the series with New York and are considered one of the more dangerous teams in the MLB.

Guardians vs. Yankees Prediction and Pick

This game is going to be a tough one to call. On one hand, we have the Yankees with their best pitcher on the mound. Except, Cole has been playing like a bordering fifth starter and I just don’t know if he can pull out of this tailspin. Part of me thinks he’s injured. While another part thinks that maybe the “sticky stuff” made Cole the superstar that he is, or was.

He’s actually gotten worse each game with his performances culminating in a 1 ⅔ inning disaster against the Tigers. He gave up two earned runs and it took him 68 pitches to get five outs. Brutal to the nth degree. This was by far his worst game of the year, even if he only gave up two runs. He walked five batters while striking out only three. His control just isn't there. His velocity just isn’t there. It really is becoming a strong possibility that Cole is not capable of competing without a little something extra to help his grip. Maybe he has baby hands? I don’t know but the results speak volumes. 

I think Cole is an automatic fade moving forward. I wouldn't be surprised if the Yankees do something drastic like send him back to AAA to figure out what is going on. Because one thing is clear. Something is very wrong with Gerrit Cole.
