Heisman Trophy Watch: Caleb Williams Set to Be Third USC Quarterback to Win Heisman
By Reed Wallach
Things are falling into place for Caleb Williams to win the Heisman Trophy.
Not only has the USC quarterback's stellar play propelled the Trojans to the brink of their first College Football Playoff appearance, Ohio State's loss at home to Michigan earlier in the day soiled Williams' top challenger, C.J. Stroud's candidacy for the award.
Following USC's win against Notre Dame on Saturday night behind another fantastic showing from the Oklahoma transfer, Williams has become the overwhelming favorite to lift the Heisman Trophy.
2022 Heisman Trophy Odds
Williams leapfrogged Stroud atop the odds board mid-week ahead of the final slate of regular season games, is now -2200 to win the award following Saturday's games.
The USC signal-caller is seventh in the country with 3,712 passing yards and 351 on the ground. He is also responsible for 44 total touchdowns with only three interceptions. On Saturday in the regular season finale, Williams was excellent in the victory over Notre Dame, completing 18-of-22 passes for 232 yards with four total touchdowns.
The Trojans are in control of their own destiny to make the College Football Playoff with a rematch against Utah on Friday night in Las Vegas in the PAC-12 Championship game. The Utes are the only team to defeat USC this season with a thrilling 43-42 win in Salt Lake City.
The difference between making the CFP may come down to if the Trojans win on Friday night, but there is no doubt that Williams will be the Heisman Trophy winner.
