History is on Patrick Reed’s Side at US Open
A popular pick to win this week’s US Open is Patrick Reed, and if you believe history will repeat itself, you should consider betting on him too.
This year’s edition of the US Open will be held at the South Course at Torrey Pines. This will be the second time that the venue will be hosting the event, with the only other time occurring in 2008.
So why is history on Reed’s side?
In addition to hosting the US Open twice, Torrey Pines plays host for the annual event that is now called the Farmers Insurance Open. Back in 2008, the last time they hosted the US Open, the yearly event at Torrey Pines was called the Buick Invitational.
So, who won the Buick Invitational at Torrey Pines in 2008? None other than Tiger Woods, who would then go on to win the US Open at the exact same course just a few months later.
In 2021, it was Reed who won the yearly event at Torrey Pines, making the Farmers Insurance Open his ninth win on the PGA Tour. Now he has a chance to repeat what Woods accomplished in 2008, winning two events at Torrey Pines in the same year.
WynnBET has Reed’s odds to win the US Open set at +3000 (bet $100 to profit $3,000), which is the 13th-shortest odds in the field.
To be fair, Woods won four total events in 2008 (in only six starts), so him winning the Buick Invitational wasn’t exactly groundbreaking, but it still shows that if someone can win at Torrey Pines once, they can do it a second time in the same year.
Reed isn’t the only golfer in the field who already has a career win at Torrey Pines. Marc Leishman, Justin Rose, Jon Rahm, Bubba Watson and Phil Mickelson (three times), round out the players in this week’s field that have wins at the San Diego-based golf course.
Reed would be seeking his second major championship, after capturing the 2018 Masters. His best finish at the US Open also came in 2018 when he finished in fourth place.
