History Suggests Rams Won't Easily 'Run It Back' for Another Super Bowl

Winning the Super Bowl is hard to do. But, do you know what is harder? Winning two in a row. That feat has been accomplished by seven different franchises but only one has done it since 2000. Most of the others were done in the 60s and 70s by the Steelers, Packers, and 49ers. The Buffalo Bills went to an impressive four straight super bowls but lost all of them. A record that will never be broken. No team has gone back-to-back since the Patriots did it in 2003 and 2004.

Getting back to Rams, this all points to an uphill battle to make it back to the show. Don’t believe me? Just look at the previous two Super Bowl winners and how it went for them. The Kansas City Chiefs were unable to go two in a row despite actually making it back to the big game in consecutive seasons before falling to the Buccaneers. Then, last season, Tom Brady managed to lead the Bucs to a great season but lost to the Rams in the divisional round.

This point was made by the oddsmakers at WynnBET Sportsbook who opened next year’s Super Bowl odds with the Rams as the fourth favorite at +1200. That slots them in behind the Buffalo Bills (+700), Kansas City Chiefs (+700) and ties them with the Cincinnati Bengals (+1200).

While history is against them, there are some good reasons to bet the Rams to repeat. First off, they have the best offensive player in the league in Cooper Kupp and the best defensive player in the league in Aaron Donald. Matthew Stafford is enjoying a resurgence in LA and looked sharp last season. I have no reason to doubt that the core of this team remains and sees similar individual success next year.

While the Rams obviously have the talent to win a Super Bowl, there is also a lot of luck involved in making a run. That is why it's so hard to go back-to-back and why I don’t think the Rams can pull it off.
