Hornets vs. Clippers Prediction and Odds: L.A. Has Edge Sunday Night
By Matt De Saro
Sunday night basketball heads to the Staples Center tonight for a game between teams with similar records but heading on divergent paths.
The Charlotte Hornets are 5-5 after starting the season 3-0, having lost four of their last five games overall. They are on a three-game losing streak with losses to the Cleveland Cavaliers, Golden State Warriors and Sacramento Kings last week. Charlotte has an identical 5-5 record against the spread and is 7-3 O/U in its 10 games so far.
The Los Angeles Clippers are also .500, with a 4-4 record, but have won three in a row after starting the season 1-4. The Clippers are coming off a victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves on both Wednesday and Friday night in a mini-series. L.A. also has the same ATS record as it does SU, but the Clippers are 2-6 on overs this season with a net rating of just -2.8.

Hornets vs. Clippers Prediction and Pick
The Clippers enter this game on both a winning streak this season and a winning streak against the Hornets. L.A. has won six straight against Charlotte going 5-1 ATS in those matchups. The Clippers won the last two games of this series by double digits, with Paul George leading the charge with a 20.5 points per game average in those meetings.
Despite similar records, it isn't hard to see that there is a lot separating these two teams.
Both teams are rely heavily on their guards, but the Clippers’ guards are just better. Los Angeles starters Reggie Jackson and Eric Bledsoe get the edge over LaMelo Ball and Terry Rozier nine times out of 10 in my book. The Clippers also have a legit MVP candidate in Paul George who is second in the league in points per game at 27.9.
Where things really go off the rails for the Hornets in looking ahead to this game is on defense. Charlotte is dead-last in defensive efficiency I expect the Clippers to feast tonight.
Too many uncontested long balls, too many fouls and not enough rebounding will keep the Hornets from making a game of this.
Pick: Clippers -6.0 (-105)
