Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Derek Carr has been on fire to open this season, and after his two-score performance in the Raiders' win over the Pittsburgh Steelers, I wrote that he deserved more respect in the odds to win MVP at WynnBET Sportsbook

Well, the oddsmakers at WynnBET delivered, but they didn’t move Carr up enough for my liking. The Raiders quarterback moved from +7500 to +4000 to win the award, but he’s tied with Joe Burrow, who threw three picks in a loss to the Chicago Bears in Week 2.

Can’t say I agree with that one.

FanSided National NFL Insider Matt Verderame released this week’s NFL Quarterback Rankings, and Carr has made his debut in the top 10.

“Nobody has enjoyed a better start to the season,” Verderame wrote after moving Carr from No. 12 to No. 10. “Carr is leading the NFL in passing yards by more than 100, despite playing good defenses in the [Baltimore] Ravens and Steelers. Left for dead by most pundits — including yours truly — Carr and the Raiders look terrific.”

The Raiders are 2-0 this season, and if they find a way to make the playoffs after being favored to miss the postseason (-500) at the beginning of the year, Carr will deserve some serious consideration for MVP.

Last year, Carr threw for a career-high 4,103 yards. With 817 yards and four scores through the first two weeks of this year's campaign, he looks poised to break that career-high in the 17-game 2021 season.

Jon Gruden and the Raiders didn’t have many expectations coming into this season, but Carr’s play has elevated the Raiders from a 6.5-win projection at WynnBET to eight, with the over (-130) as the favorite.

Carr has been much better than Burrow, and if you believe in the Raiders, his odds are an absolute steal as a dark horse MVP candidate.
