How Many Points Will Donovan Mitchell Score in His Return?
Donovan Mitchell is set to return to action tonight, and it couldn’t have come at a better time.
The No. 1 seed Utah Jazz find themselves down 1-0 to the No. 8 seed Memphis Grizzlies in the opening round of the Western Conference playoffs. Mitchell has been out of the lineup with an ankle injury since hurting it in Utah's April 16 game against the Indiana Pacers.
The All-Star shooting guard led the Jazz this season with 26.4 points per game, while also averaging 4.4 rebounds and 5.2 assists.
WynnBET has his point total for Game 2 set at 25.5 with the over (-120) favored to the under (+100).
Mitchell played in two of the three regular season games against the Grizzlies, and torched them in both putting up 35 points in each contest while also dishing out an average of 6.5 assists. If those two games are any indication of how Mitchell will play tonight, you have to love the over at 25.5 at -120.
Mitchell wasn’t happy that he was held out for Game 1 of the series, but he’ll have to step up tonight if the Jazz want to even the series. Despite being down 1-0, Vegas seems to still have confidence in Utah moving on to the second round, as WynnBET has the Jazz set as -400 favorites to win the series which is an implied probability of 80%.
If you think the Grizzlies can become the fourth No. 8 seed to win a best-of-seven series, you can still wager on them pulling it off at +240 odds.
If there is one concern you may consider for betting on Mitchell’s player prop, it’s his minutes. The Jazz haven’t stated whether or not they’re going to restrict Mitchell’s playing time tonight to ease him back into action after being out for over a month, but you can be assured that if it were up to him, he’d be on the court as much as possible tonight.
Mitchell was on fire over his last 16 games before going down with injury, averaging over 30 points per game during that stretch. Given that his point total for tonight is five points lower than what he was averaging before his injury, I love the over and I expect Mitchell to have a big game in his return tonight.
