How Many Points Will Kyrie Irving Score in Boston Return?
By Peter Dewey
Kyrie Irving will return to Boston in Game 3 between the Boston Celtics and the Brooklyn Nets It will be the first time that Irving will play at TD Garden with fans in the stands since he left to sign with the Nets during the 2019 offseason.
The Nets have a chance to take a commanding 3-0 lead on the series, and they blew out the Celtics in Game 2. Irving scored 15 points in under 28 minutes in that one, but WynnBET has his player prop projection for points set at 23.5 for Friday’s game with the over (-112) being slightly favored to the under (-108).
Irving would have to have a big game against his former team, but with Kevin Durant and James Harden also commanding touches in the Brooklyn offense, how many points will Irving actually score?
If Boston can keep this game closer than Game 2, I like Irving to hit the over in this one. He took 20 shots in Game 1 and turned them into 29 points, despite hitting just two 3-pointers. The Celtics were blown out in Game 2 partially because Jayson Tatum went down with an eye injury, but he should be good to go for tonight.
Irving played almost 38 minutes in Game 1 since Boston was in it until late in the fourth quarter, and with the Celtics playing at home I’d expect this game to be much closer than Game 2.
If Irving can get more one-on-one matchups like he did in Game 1, it’s going to be a long night for Celtics fans. I mean, how can you guard this?
Irving averaged 26.9 points per game this season, and while he only took 12 shots in Game 2, the Nets showed that Harden will likely handle more of the distributing when all three superstars are on the court together.
I like Irving to hit the over on his points projection in Game 3, and if he gets going, don’t be surprised if the Nets keep letting him cook in order to silence what will likely be a hostile crowd in Boston.
