Monday features a showdown between two Metropolitan Division rivals when the Carolina Hurricanes head north to take on the Philadelphia Flyers. However, these two teams are on divergent paths and have very little in common other than the division they share. Carolina is also playing the second game of a back-to-back after beating the Pittsburgh Penguins 4-3 on Sunday. With the win, the Hurricanes move to 34-11-4 and slide into first place in the Metropolitan Division two points ahead of the Penguins.

The Flyers, on the other hand, were beaten on Thursday night 5-3 by the Washington Capitals. The loss dropped them to 15-25-9 and into a tie for last place with their long-time rivals, the New Jersey Devils. Here are the odds for tonight’s Metropolitan showdown, courtesy of WynnBET Sportsbook.

Hurricanes vs. Flyers Prediction and Pick

The only thing Philly has going for them is the fact that the Hurricanes are less than 24 hours removed from their previous game. This will also be their third game in the last four days. Meanwhile, the Flyers are well-rested and haven’t played since Thursday. Yet the Hurricanes have depth on both ends of the ice and have a deep stable of capable goalies. While their last game against the Penguins was particularly taxing, I still think this team has the energy to take down a very poor Flyers team.

The Hurricanes are the fifth-best team in the NHL in goals per game, fifth in score differential, and third overall in goalie save percentage. The Hurricanes also ranked eighth in shutouts which is a distinct possibility tonight considering the Flyers are the fifth lowest-scoring team in the NHL per game. My money is on the Hurricanes to continue winning and covering games as they did in Pittsburgh and Nashville in their last two.

Pick: Under 6 -120
