The NHL is back!

All-Star weekend has wrapped up, and teams are prepped and ready to get the second half of the season started.

Tonight's slate will begin with a battle between two of the top teams in the Eastern Conferences when the Carolina Hurricanes travel to Toronto to take on the Maple Leafs. Both teams went into the All-Star break on a hot streak. The Leafs have won five-straight games, and the Hurricanes have strung together four victories in a row. Both squads are 7-2-1 in their last 10 games.

Here are the odds via WynnBET for tonight's Eastern Conference showdown.

Hurricanes vs. Maple Leafs Predictions and Pick

The Maple Leafs and Hurricanes are extremely similar in almost every single statistic, but there's one thing that sticks out that is going to force my hand in betting on the Hurricanes. Toronto is opting to go with its backup goaltender, Petr Mrazek, for tonight's game.

Mrazek enters the game with a 2.94 GAA on the year and a .902 save percentage. While those numbers aren't terrible, they certainly aren't fantastic. He's also allowed four goals in two of his last five starts, and they came against subpar offenses in the Red Wings and the Blackhawks.

The Hurricanes are fourth in the NHL in high danger scoring chances, and the Maple Leafs allow 11.26 high danger scoring chances per game. That's not a good recipe when you have your backup goalie in between the pipes.
