Hurricanes vs. Sabres Prediction and Odds (Back Hurricane to Cover)
By Matt De Saro
The Carolina Hurricanes hit the road tonight to take on a rather weak Buffalo Sabres team. Buffalo is currently 12th in the Eastern Conference and dangerously close to being eliminated from playoff contention.
The Sabres are tied with the Red Wings with 61 points in the Atlantic Division. The next closest team is the Lightning with 93 points. So, it's safe to say they aren’t making up any ground in the East.
The Hurricanes, meanwhile, lead the Metropolitan Division with 98 points and a 45-16 record. They are second in the East behind the Florida Panthers and are primed for a run at the Stanley Cup. Carolina has struggled a little in their last few games with a 3-2 record in their last five. But, this game against a bad Sabres team should be a cakewalk. This is the first of back-to-back games these two teams will play.

Hurricanes vs. Sabres Prediction and Pick
The Sabres, it should be noted, are not playing as bad as they were earlier in the year. It’s too late for them to actually turn their season around, but they are playing like a team with a shot. They are 5-4 in their last nine games and had a very big win over Nashville on Friday night 4-3. They are also coming off a good effort against the best team in the East, the Florida Panthers.
However, despite this strong couple of weeks of play, the Sabres are still outgunned in terms of this matchup. The Canes should be able to comfortably control this game and create enough scoring chances to win handily.
There is a chance that the Sabres goaltending falls apart as well here. Making them a very tough team to trust. Dustin Tokarski and Craig Anderson have had some very questionable games in goal lately. Anderson, especially, with a minus-4.9 goals saved above expected rating this season. He is the likely starter tonight and is always a danger to get blown up.
Pick: Hurricanes -1.5 (+100)
