When baseball fans talk about the best pitchers in baseball, the names that usually come up in conversation include Jacob deGrom, Trevor Bauer, Shane Bieber and Gerrit Cole.

While those pitchers are all deserving of praise, there is one name that is never mentioned: Hyun-Jin Ryu.

I don’t know if it’s because he plays for the Toronto Blue Jays or if it’s due to the language barrier during interviews, but it’s time to give Hyun-Jin Ryu some much deserved respect.

WynnBET currently has his odds set at +1500 to win the American League Cy Young award and you won’t find better value on the board.

What else does this guy need to do to get his name thrown in with the best arms in baseball?

Ryu was the runner up to win the National League Cy Young award in 2019, his last season with the Dodgers, and then finished third in AL Cy Young votes in his first season with the Blue Jays in 2020.

The South Korean pitcher is now putting together yet another stellar season. He has been a bonafide ace for Toronto, tallying an ERA of 2.51 and a WHIP of 0.986 this season.

While his numbers may not be quite at the level of Cole and Bieber, he seems to have been finding his groove over the past couple of games. He’s allowed just one earned run in his last 14 innings and has recorded three straight wins for the Jays.

It’s still relatively early in the season, but if you’re looking for betting value on a pitcher to win the Cy Young award, Ryu at +1500 is an absolute no brainer.

It’s about time that we start giving him the respect that he deserves.
