When we last saw the Indiana Pacers, they were being blown out by the Washington Wizards in the Play-in game. However, that was without Myles Turner and T.J. Warren and before Rick Carlisle became the head coach.

Now the Pacers have some hope that they can put all of the pieces together and make a deep run in the playoffs -- something they haven’t done since 2014.

Indiana has been trying to be more than just an average team since the Paul George days. Last year, they failed in that area. The Pacers had a net rating of 0.0 last season, making them the definition of average.

If they want to take the next step, they will have to take a big leap in either direction -- deciding to either outscore the league or lock up on a nightly basis.

Indiana Pacers Win Total Prediction | 42.5 (Over: -115/Under: -108)

With the entire team back, 42.5 wins is a fair number for the Pacers. Indiana was two games under .500 last season and the addition of a defensive anchor like Myles Turner should help significantly.

There is a chance that the beginning of the season could be rocky for the Pacers. They have two stars who haven’t played in a long time, as well as trying to merge Caris LeVert with the existing talent. Carlisle is an experienced coach and should be able to manage all the personalities to form a cohesive unit, but adjustment is often hard at the beginning of the year.

The Pacers don’t have the luxury of having one of the top flight superstars to be able to carry them to 45 wins alone, which puts even more stress on Carlisle’s job to create a strong sense of “team.”

Indiana Pacers Playoff Odds

This is where things get interesting. The Pacers have a very solid team, but the bottom half of the Eastern Conference has gotten deeper and the Pacers could find themselves on the outside-looking-in if they aren’t careful.

WynnBET has the Pacers’ playoff odds set at -175. The bottom half of the East should consist of the Hawks, Bulls, Knicks, Celtics and Pacers. One of those teams is going to be left out, and the Pacers could be that team.

This season is going to be dependent on how it starts. If Indiana starts slow and lets the other four teams pass them by, it could be a long season. The Pacers are stuck in NBA purgatory right now, but after a down season last year, this could be the year the wheels fall off.

The Pacers are going to be a solid team, but so is the rest of the East. I expect the Pacers to be in the play-in game again, so maybe this year ends with a different result.
