As the 2020-21 NBA season has gone on, we’ve gotten to see more and more glimpses of why the Minnesota Timberwolves selected Anthony Edwards with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft.

Edwards can flat out score, and he’s thrust himself at least into the conversation alongside LaMelo Ball for the NBA’s Rookie of the Year award. Edwards is a +200 underdog and he’s not likely to win the award with Ball helping lead the Charlotte Hornets to the play-in tournament, but Vegas is taking note of his recent scoring stretch.

Edwards has a player prop projection of 22.5 for points in Thursday’s matchup with the Denver Nuggets, and the over (-112) is a slight favorite to the under (-108). The Nuggets are without Monte Morris tonight and are resting Michael Porter Jr., so this could be an opportunity for Edwards to light up a shorthanded Denver team.

Over his last six games, Edwards is shooting 55.6 percent from the field and 44.2 percent from 3-point range, which is way above his season averages of 41.4 percent from the field and 32.7 percent from 3. It’s led to him averaging 26.5 points per game over the six-game stretch, and he’s taking 18.0 shots a night.

Edwards has scored 22 or more points in five of the last six games for  the Wolves, with his only performance under the mark coming in the 32-point blowout  of the Orlando Magic earlier this week. Edwards played just 28 minutes in the game, but he still shot 7-for-11 from the field and finished with 16 points.

It’s rare that the Timberwolves blow anyone out these days, so it’s likely Edwards will get a lot of minutes against a playoff team like Denver. Minnesota is just trying to see what it has before next season, and letting Edwards get more and more comfortable in the league will bode well for the franchise’s future.

We’re trusting Edwards to continue to make the most of his opportunity and hit the over in Thursday's contest.
