Is Rafael Nadal Playing in Wimbledon? (Odds, Historic Performance at Wimbledon)
By Matt De Saro
Rafael Nadal proved he is still on top of his game at 36-year-old by winning another Grand Slam title recently at Roland-Garros. Now with 22 major wins, Nadal holds a two-tournament lead over Novak Djokavic and Roger Federer, both with 20.
With Wimbledon just a week away, we might get to see Nadal pad his lead even further.
Is Rafael Nadal Playing in Wimbledon?
Tennis fans can rejoice because Nadal announced that he will be playing at Wimbledon for the first time since losing in the semi-finals back in 2019. People are already calling for him to potentially earn a Calendar Slam after winning both the Australian and French Open so far this year.
Nadal has stated his doubts about being able to achieve such a feat. But a win at Wimbledon would just leave the U.S. Open.
Rafael Nadal Odds to Win Wimbledon
Despite going 2-0 in Major Tournaments so far in 2022, Nadal is not the odds-on favorite to win outright at Wimbledon at WynnBET Sportsbook. That honor goes to Novak Djokovic at -120. Nadal, meanwhile, is a not-so-close-second at +550 odds. Matteo Berrettini rounds out the top three at +850.
Rafael Nadal Historic Performance at Wimbledon
Nadal has made 14 appearances at Wimbledon since 2003 with mixed results. He lost in the finals both in 2006 and 2007 before finally earning his first win there in 2008. He was absent in 2009 but won two titles in three years. However, 2010 was the last time Nadal came out on top of this tournament. That might explain his low odds for a guy with two Grand Slam wins already this year.
Has Rafael Nadal Won at Wimbledon?
Nadal leads every other man in history in terms of Grand Slam tournament wins, but he hasn’t had a ton of luck at Wimbledon. He’s “only” won twice in 19 years with no titles there since 2010. He’s not made the final since 2011 and only made the semifinals twice. He has his worst win percentage of the four Grand Slams at Wimbledon at 82%. For comparison, Nadal has a 97% win percentage at the French Open.
