There are a pair of key injuries in the Minnesota vs. Penn State that is making this one of the most intriguing matchups on the slate.

Tanner Morgan left the Gophers second straight loss, this one to Illinois on the road, to a concussion. Morgan, the only Minnesota quarterback with significant playing experience is going to be relied on heavily to lead the Gophers to Happy Valley in a matchup against Penn State, but will he be cleared to play?

Here's the latest on Morgan's recovery in hopes of playing on Saturday:

Latest Injury Update for Tanner Morgan

Mum has been the word around Morgan, who flew home with the team from the Illinois game, a promising sign for his recovery and potential to play this weekend, but that's been it from the tight lipped P.J. Fleck.

It's unclear if Morgan will go on Saturday night in front of a rocking 'White-Out' crowd in Happy Valley, but James Franklin notes that he is preparing for the quarterback to be cleared. For what it's worth Minnesota offensive coordinator Kirk Ciarrocca had the same role at Penn State in 2020.

After dipping down as far as Penn State -3.5 for a bit during the week, the number has bounced back to PSU -5 as Morgan may be further away from playing than the Golden Gopher faithful hope.

Penn State has quarterback concerns of their own with the injured Sean Clifford, but Minnesota has far less proven depth behind Morgan in Athan Kaliakmanis, who had two interceptions on six pass attempts against Illinois last week.

Stay tuned for further updates.
