The top team in the NHL will host one of the worst teams in the NHL tonight when the Colorado Avalanche take on the New York Islanders.

The Avs have strung together three-straight wins, including a big win on the road in Vegas on Saturday. They're 12 points above the second place team in the Conference, so they can basically coast to the number one seed as we enter the final stretch of the season.

The Islanders have shown little-to-no signs of life this season. They're 4-4-2 in their last 10 games, but are coming off a 4-0 win over the Ducks. Tonight will be their fifth-straight road game, before they head home to face the Canucks on Thursday.

The only way to bet on this game, in my opinion, is on the total.

The Avalanche are too dominant to bet against them against a lowly Islanders team, so the only other question remains is how many goals will be scored? I think the UNDER 6 at -120 is the play to make.

The one thing the Islanders do well is defend. They rank fourth in both expected goals against per 60 minutes and high danger scoring chances allowed over their last 25 games. It's going to be tough to slow down the offense juggernaut that is the Avalanche, but if New York wants any chance of winning tonight, their best chance is to slow down the pace of play and hope for a few lucky breaks.
