It's A Trap: Which Week 16 NFL Games Are Most Deceiving?
By Matt De Saro
As the NFL season begins to wind down, we are continuing to see shocking upsets on a weekly basis. Be it the Lions beating the Cardinals or the Buccaneers getting shut out by the Saints, there have been shocking results aplenty.
Let’s take a look at two possible upset games that pop out in Week 16 on the WynnBET Sportsbook odds board heading into the weekend.
Chargers vs Texans +10
The Chargers opened as double-digit favorites for their Week 16 road matchup against the Houston Texans. And while they are clearly the superior team, I am not sure how mentally ready they will be for this game. The reason being is that the Chargers are coming off a loss to the Kansas City Chiefs and might be looking past this game to their final two matchups. Those games against the Broncos and Raiders present more of a challenge on paper and the Chargers could be overlooking this Texans team who are coming off a win.
Sure, Houston is a 3-11 team with little to play for but do have a win over the Titans earlier in the year. If Los Angeles doesn’t bring its A-game this weekend, they might be in for a closer battle than they were expecting.
Jaguars vs Jets EVEN
I realize most so-called “trap games” refer to teams that are heavily favored, but I think this game qualifies despite the pick ‘em spread. Many thought that last week, after the firing of Urban Meyer, that the Jaguars were in a good spot to beat the equally bad Houston Texans. While it wasn’t in the cards for Jacksonville, I am not deterred from betting them this week. They will have a full week to prepare with their new coach Darrell Bevell for the first time.
Some will point to the Jets' close loss to the Dolphins last week as a sign of life. However, the Dolphins gave up an unusually high number of turnovers that led to the score being closer than this game should have been.
