Jacob deGrom Injury Update Is Terrifying for Mets Fans
By Reed Wallach
Just when it looked like the New York Mets would be hole again, there's another setback.
Still rehabbing from a shoulder injury that cut his 2021 season short, Jacob deGrom had his simulated game pushed back "out of an abundance of caution" due to mild muscle soreness, per MLB.com's Anthony DiComo.
When Is Jacob deGrom Coming Back for the Mets?
While deGrom was able to play catch on Monday and Tuesday, this is another delay to the return of one of the best pitchers in the game. deGrom hasn't pitched in a Major League game since last July and landed on the IL on April 1 with a stress reaction on his right scapula.
Even without deGrom, the Mets have led the National League East for a majority of the season, holding off the Atlanta Braves heading into the All-Star break. At 58-35, the Mets are 2.5 games up on Atlanta, and are the second choice to win the NL Pennant (+325) and fourth to win the World Series (+750) at WynnBET Sportsbook.
How much longer can the Mets hang on without deGrom? We'll see, but expect the Mets to be aggressive at the trade deadline to continue to improve the roster with a real shot at winning the World Series.
