At this point, we should know that the NBA is a 24/7, 365-day event. Even when there aren’t any games on, there’s something to discuss.

In this case, it's the Rookie of the Year race. That competition is already heating up with Rockets guard Jalen Green, the No. 2 overall pick, closing in on Pistons guard Cade Cunningham, the No. 1 overall pick, in the odds standings.

WynnBET has had Cunningham as the favorite to win the award for quite some time, but his odds have gotten slightly longer. Before Summer League ended, Cunningham was +210 to win (bet $100 to win $210). Now he is +225.

His movement is off the richter scale, but it does bring him closer to Green -- who is on his way up. Green was at +275 and has moved up to +240.

Cunningham averaged 18.7 points, 5.7 rebounds and 1.7 steals on 42.9% from the field in the three games he played in Sumer League. Green averaged 20.3 points per game with a 50/50/90 split. Both players showed why they were the top two picks in the draft.

When it comes to the award, Green has a great chance to take control of the race early. Although he has Kevin Porter Jr. with him, the Rockets desperately need scoring and Green has no issue filling that role.

Cunningham’s game is more well-rounded, but he’ll be more of a scorer in Detroit with Killian Hayes expected to take a step forward.

The two star prospects showed out against one another, each scoring 20 points in their head-to-head matchup. The Pistons and the Rockets are both expected to be at the bottom of the league standings again this coming season, with these two as the bright spots for each franchise.
