Jalen Hurts and Carson Wentz Have Same MVP Odds

Carson Wentz is no longer a Philadelphia Eagle, but he and Jalen Hurts still have something in common. 

In WynnBET’s latest odds for the NFL’s Most Valuable Player award in 2021, Hurts and Wentz are both +5000 to win the award. Wentz’s nightmare 2020 season led to Hurts taking the reins in Philadelphia, but now the two will be competing for a Super Bowl in separate locker rooms. 

Wentz, now a member of the Indianapolis Colts, won’t get the chance at a revenge game against his former team this season, but he could make them regret their decision by returning to his 2017 form. 

In 2017, Wentz looked like a future MVP, as he threw for 3,296 yards and 33 touchdowns in 13 games before going down with a season-ending injury.

The Eagles were confident enough that Wentz wouldn't be able to get back to that level, and they ate a ton of money in his contract to trade him to Indy. It was a massive risk, considering that Hurts appeared in just four games as a rookie, but the Eagles have endorsed him with their actions this offseason. 

Philadelphia decided to move out of the No. 6 spot in the draft and didn’t take a quarterback with its first-round pick but rather a receiver in Heisman Trophy winner Devonta Smith. The Eagles did bring in veteran quarterback Joe Flacco, but the job looks to be Hurts’ to lose. 

Both players are facing an uphill battle to win MVP, but it will be fun to watch their odds fluctuate this season. They surely will be compared all season long, and Vegas isn’t ready to claim either quarterback superior just yet.
