Jalen Hurts is winning over the Philadelphia Eagles this offseason, and players reportedly view him as the team’s franchise quarterback going forward.

The Eagles traded Carson Wentz to the Indianapolis Colts this offseason after Hurts outplayed Wentz at the end of the 2020 season. A second-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, Hurts’ work ethic has endeared him to the franchise, and he seems poised to at least be the Eagles’ starter this season.

Philadelphia had been rumored to be interested in Deshaun Watson, but the quarterback’s legal issues are just one of the reasons Philly seems to have decided to stay away from making a potential trade.

Hurts, who is +5000 to win the league’s MVP award this season on WynnBET, has been the best quarterback at the joint practices between the Eagles and New England Patriots ahead of their preseason game on Thursday night.

"Neither [Cam Newton or Mac Jones] really distinguished themselves,” ESPN’s Mike Reiss said. “The feeling on the ground here in Philadelphia was that Jalen Hurts was actually the best QB on the field."

That’s some high praise for Hurts, and it could mean that he’s ready to lead Philly to a better record than it had in the 2020 campaign.

WynnBET currently has the Eagles projected to win 6.5 games in 2021 with the over (-145) as the favorite to the under (+125). The NFC East has proven to be a toss up in recent years, so there’s a chance Hurts could lead the Eagles to the playoffs if they outperform expectations this season.

In 15 games last season (four starts), Hurts threw for 1,061 yards, six touchdowns and four interceptions while leading the Eagles to a 1-3 record.
