Sometimes the oddsmakers send hints to the betting public before the start of the season.

Throughout the entire offseason, the Dallas Cowboys were the consensus favorites to win the division. But a few weeks before the regular season kicked off, the Philadelphia Eagles kept creeping closer and closer, eventually taking their place at +130 odds to win the NFC East before Week 1 began.

Perhaps we now know why: Jalen Hurts.

The Eagles' third-year quarterback has been brilliant through the first two games of the 2022 NFL season while his team is off to a 2-0 start. He leads the NFL in yards per pass attempt, rushing yards by a quarterback, as well as rushing touchdowns with three in two games. He's also made some history in the process.

Over at FanDuel Sportsbook, Hurts has now moved from +3000 at the start of the year to win NFL MVP, all the way up to +1000. He's now the third-shortest favorite on the board behind only Josh Allen (+340) and Patrick Mahomes (+460).

Is Jalen Hurts a Good Bet to Win NFL MVP?

The Eagles defeated two NFC North teams en route to their successful start so far, but in order for Hurts to remain a strong pivot from the top two favorites, he'll need to keep the pace going within the division.

He'll have a chance in Week 3 when the Eagles travel to Washington on a short week to face the Commanders as 4.5-point road favorites against former Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz on the other side of the field.

I personally placed a futures bet on Hurts at +1800 following their Week 1 victory over Detroit, but I would likely wait until after Week 3 following the first division game of the year for Philadelphia. On a short week against a division rival, bettors have already seen the line move from Eagles -5.5 down to -4.5.

After Week 3, the schedule gets even softer. The Eagles host Jacksonville, travel to Arizona, and then host the Dallas Cowboys with no Dak Prescott before a Week 7 bye. At the moment, they don't face a team with a winning record until Week 14 when they travel to play the New York Giants.

Philadelphia will likely be a public darling after their beatdown of the Vikings last week, but I expect a much closer outcome in Week 3, which could ultimately move Hurts' odds down the board if he struggles.
