Jameis Winston Interception Prediction Shows Growth
The New Orleans Saints have yet to announce their starting quarterback for the upcoming season, but it’s looking like Jameis Winston will be the starter based on the odds. It’s been a long time since we’ve seen Winston lead a team. Yet based on some of WynnBET’s predictions, we should see an improved Winston in 2021.
WynnBET has released its odds for who will lead the league in interceptions this year and Winston isn’t even in the top 10. That has to be music to Saints fans’ ears.
In 2019, Winston made history. He was the first player to throw for 30 touchdowns and 30 interceptions, creating the 30-30 club. That season showed both sides of the “Jameis Winston experience.” Winston and his inconsistency led the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to a 7-9 record.
Winston spent last year with the Saints, only attempting 11 passes. He spent the season with the headset on, learning the playbook and watching Taysom Hill and Drew Brees run the offense.
With a year off, Winston should show that he has matured and is now a different quarterback. His odds to lead the league in interceptions are set at +2500 along with Carson Wentz and Drew Lock. While those quarterbacks aren’t the ones you’d like to be associated with, it is a step up for Winston.
Ball security has always been an issue for Winston, dating back to his days at Florida State. In two seasons at Florida State, he threw 28 interceptions.
Winston will have to work harder this season with Michael Thomas expected to be sidelined for a significant part of the season with an ankle injury. Not having his top target certainly hurts, but it may incentivize him to not take as many deep shots and value the ball more.
The year Winston led the league in interceptions is the same year he led the league in passing yards. He showed that his arm talent is elite, but has very questionable decision making skills. If he can cut them down, which the odds say he will, then Winston could be one of the most entertaining quarterbacks to watch this season.
