Jared Goff vs. Ben Roethlisberger: Who Will Throw For More Yards?
UPDATE: Ben Roethlisberger has been ruled OUT for the Steelers Week 10 matchup against the Lions due to being placed in COVID-19 protocol.
The Pittsburgh Steelers will face another NFC North team in the Detroit Lions this week. The Steelers played the Bears on Monday Night Football and were able to stave off a comeback by Chicago.
Ben Roethlisberger and Justin Fields had an interesting duel last week, with Fields throwing for more yards and Roethlisberger throwing for one more touchdown.
This week, Roethlisberger gets to go head-to-head with Jared Goff.
Roethlisberger’s passing yards line is set at 244.5 yards (Over: -125/Under: -115), while Goff’s is at 238.5 (Over: -125/Under: -115).
Normally if two quarterbacks are equal and I think one will be playing from behind, then I’ll take the trailing quarterback to get garbage time yards and win the battle. However, I don’t see that happening here with Goff and the Lions -- who I expect to be down the entire game.
These two teams allow nearly the same amount of yards through the air per game (Detroit is better by 0.1 yards per game). However, I think the pressure that Pittsburgh can generate with its pass rush will be a major factor.
Goff hasn’t cleared this line in three of his last four games. Meanwhile, Roethlisberger has cleared his line in half of the games this year.
If the Steelers can keep their foot on the gas, I see Roethlisberger winning this matchup and Goff hitting the under on his line. For Roethlisberger, it depends on Najee Harris’ performance. If Harris has the day I think he will have, Roethlisberger will be able to sit back and relax. If not, then expect him to get a lot of attempts and yards in the process.
