Jaylen Brown's Recent Play Adds Validity to Celtics Championship Odds

The Boston Celtics turned their season around in an instant, relying on their defense to start putting wins on the board.

A few weeks ago, I wrote about how Jayson Tatum’s offensive leap was making the Celtics a dark horse to win the championship. I wasn’t ready to crown the Celtics as the team to beat because offensively, it seemed like Tatum was doing most of the heavy lifting alone.

Now, Jaylen Brown is starting to pick up his offense. If he stays on this level, then I’m ready to consider the Celtics as legitimate contenders for the championship.

Over the last 10 games, Brown is averaging 28.5 points on 55% shooting from the field and 50% from beyond the arc. That is insanely efficient and a beautiful sight for Celtics fans. While I don’t expect him to stay this hot, Brown being a reliable second scoring option is key for Boston to advance.

Boston is currently +1000 to win the NBA Finals and +400 to win the Eastern Conference at WynnBET. The Celtics will need Brown to stay hot for at least the next two weeks. It’s very possible that Boston ends up with the No. 2 seed and will have to play the Brooklyn Nets in the first round for the second year in a row. With the firepower Brooklyn offers, Boston has to be able to go shot for shot with the Nets.

Brown missed the Nets-Celtics series last season due to a torn ligament in his wrist. Tatum was left to do everything himself. I’m sure he would love to have some help this time around.

Brown’s offense is as critical to the Celtics’ championship chances as their defense, and his recent play should inspire confidence.
