Jazz vs. Cavaliers Prediction and Odds (Take the Points Despite Cavs' Terrific Defense)

Two of the best covering teams against the spread (ATS) match up in an NBA Sunday afternoon matinee in Cleveland when the Utah Jazz come to town to face the Cavaliers.

Cleveland is 16-5-2 ATS this season; tops in the NBA covering 76.2% of the time. The Jazz are 12-10-0 ATS, covering in three straight.

Following their stunning 98-97 home loss a week ago to the Pelicans, the Jazz' offense has caught fire, scoring 127, 129 and 137 points in their last three outings. That offensive efficiency will be put to the test against the Cavs, who currently boast the league's second-best defensive rating and have won four straight games.

212 is an awfully low number in today's NBA, but it's understandable when you look at how impressive Cleveland's defense has been all season.

Via NBA.com, the Cavs have held their last 13 opponents to under 40% from 3-point range, and are allowing 93.5 points-per-game during their four-game win streak.

At the same time, Utah's offensive efficiency needs to be taken seriously. With the exception of their one-point 98-97 loss to New Orleans back on November 26th, Utah has scored at least 110 points in every game in almost a month (lost to Indiana 100-111 back on November 11). The only downside? Their defense. Utah has given up over 100 points in every game but two wince November 9th.

The Jazz own the best offensive rating in the league, nearly four points higher than the Golden State Warriors.

Even with a tough test on the road, Utah should still get several open looks and try to push tempo on Cleveland to get them out of their half-court defensive sets. Rather than take the Jazz to cover in a very difficult matchup, I'll back the points on both sides.
