The battle for supremacy at MetLife Stadium in 2021 will get an early start when the New York Giants and New York Jets face off in Week 1 of the preseason Saturday evening at 6 p.m EDT.

The Jets will debut rookie quarterback Zach Wilson, but he may be without one of his top wideouts as rookie Elijah Moore, who is +2000 to win Offensive Rookie of the Year on WynnBET, was injured in today’s practice.

The Giants will be looking at a backup under center, as second-year head coach Joe Judge revealed that Daniel Jones will sit the preseason opener.

With so much inexperience on the field, fans can expect this one to be a slug fest.

Here’s what the odds look like on WynnBET:

Jets vs. Giants Spread, Odds and Over/Under

Spread:

Jets -2.5 (-105)

Giants +2.5 (-115)

Moneyline:

Jets: -135

Giants: +115

Over/Under: 35.0 (Over: -110/Under: -110)

Giants vs. Jets Betting Trends

Neither Judge or Robert Saleh has coached a preseason game in their careers, as Saleh is a first-year head coach and there wasn’t a preseason during the 2020 campaign.

  • The Jets were 6-10 against the spread last season.
  • The Giants were the best under team in the NFL last season, going 13-3.
  • The Giants were 9-7 against the spread last season, and 9-5 as an underdog.
  • The Jets were 0-1 against the spread as a favorite last season.

Jets vs. Giants Prediction and Pick

It’s easy to bet the under in preseason games, especially early ones, as most teams are running their backups out there for the majority of the game.

With Jones out of the lineup for the Giants, I’m going to take the under on the 35.0 total in this one. Wilson will likley get some run, but I can’t imagine the Jets putting the rookie’s health at risk for much longer than a few drives. Plus, the Giants were the best under team in the NFL under Judge last season.

The Giants are used to playing in close, low-scoring games, so I’m going to take them to cover the 2.5-point spread in this one. I expect both teams to rely on defense to keep this game close, and the Giants have a solid unit that allowed the ninth-fewest points in the league last year.
