Joe Burrow Sets Exciting Goal for Bengals in 2021
By Peter Dewey
The Cincinnati Bengals are trending up heading into 2021, and the return of Joe Burrow should boost the Bengals’ offense after it struggled down the stretch last season.
Burrow, who is returning from a torn ACL that he suffered in Week 11 against Washington, has some big plans for himself and the rest of Cincinnati’s attack in 2021.
“There was some good and some bad,” Burrow said of last season. “I’d like to be more explosive. And I think I was really good in quick-game situations. On fourth down, we were really good. Empty, we were really good. But we need to be more explosive with play-action passes. All of our downfield passing needs to improve. I just wasn’t as accurate as I was the year before down the field. And that was frustrating to me, because I’ve always been a good down-the-field thrower. Just getting back to the basics of that, really focusing on my fundamentals. I just started running and throwing a few weeks ago, so standing and throwing, and focusing on the fundamentals helped.”
If Burrow can take the Bengals’ offense to the next level in 2021, he should help them hit the over on the team’s 6.5 projected win total. Burrow and running back Joe Mixon will need to be healthy in 2021, but the Bengals may surprise some people in the AFC North.
The addition of wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase, who was teammates with Burrow at LSU, should help the Bengals open up the field in the passing game. Chase, Tee Higgins and Tyler Boyd are one of the league’s better pass-catching groups, and they all offer different skill sets in the offense.
Although his rookie campaign was cut short, Burrow finished the year with 2,688 passing yards, 13 touchdown passes and just five interceptions in 10 games. If you believe that Burrow will build on that stat line in 2021, you can take him as a dark horse to win the league’s MVP award at +4000 odds on WynnBET.
