The 2-0 Kansas Jayhawks are rising from the metaphorical college football ashes like a phoenix, sitting just one victory away from clearing its season-long win total in Week 3.

After taking down conference foe West Virginia as 14-point underdogs, Kansas now turns its attention to the 1-1 Houston Cougars. Houston is an impressive 11-2 over its last 13 contests but covered the spread just once in its last four games.

Kansas, meanwhile, scored 55+ points in each of its first two contests and covered the spread in each of its last five. Can the Jayhawks' rise continue or will the Cougars feast on their future conference rival?

Here are the consensus odds before we evaluate the matchup:

Kansas vs Houston Prediction and Pick

Kansas hasn't won three games in any of its last three seasons. It gets the opportunity to notch a third victory in as many weeks in Houston, and I'm starting to believe in this Jayhawks squad. Not necessarily to do anything massive this season, but four wins would be a huge development!

Jalon Daniels dominated the Mountaineers to the tune of 219 yards passing and three touchdowns with 85 yards on the ground. Houston fell to Texas Tech in overtime largely due to its ineffective ground game, so Daniels and a stable of Jayhawks backs that combined for four touchdowns last week should give Kansas an edge there.

Full disclosure: I've been a Kansas fan since I was three when I decided I liked their colors. Basketball is always fun, but this is the first football season since I was in middle school that I'm legitimately enjoying. There's something special brewing in Lawrence, and the Jayhawks should ride that momentum to keep this game close.

Houston struggles as a favorite, while Kansas is suddenly every bettor's best friend. Back the Jayhawks to continue their stellar run and cover the spread for a sixth straight contest.
