The Kansas Jayhawks were arguably the worst college football team in the United States of America in 2020, and oddsmakers think we’ll see more of the same in 2021.

Kansas ranked 125th in the country in average scoring margin last season, losing games by an average of 30.2 points on its way to a winless 0-9 record. Only Bowling Green (-33.6) and UMass (-37.2) ranked worse than Kansas in average scoring margin.

WynnBET has the win projection for the Jayhawks set at a measly number of 1.5. To make matters worse, the under is the heavy favorite at -220. If they’re going to surpass the total, they’ll likely have to do it in their first two games as their schedule kicks off with games against South Dakota and Coastal Carolina. If Kansas can’t get past a Coastal Carolina team, which was the Cinderella team of 2020, its only other chance to get a second win will be against Duke on September 29.

Lance Leipold was hired as the team’s new head coach in the offseason, and to say he has a big hill to climb with the program would be an understatement. He’ll be taking over from Les Miles, who went just 3-18 with the program before leaving it amidst sexual harassment allegations.

North Texas transfer Jason Bean will likely be the program's starting quarterback come September, and he’ll have to use his speed in order to buy time to throw the ball behind the Jayhawk’s porous offensive line. Kansas allowed 5.1 sacks per game in 2020, which was the most in the country.

The story doesn’t get any better when you look at the Kansas defense. Marcus Harris and DaJon Terry showed flashes of talent on the defensive line in 2020, but the two players promptly entered the transfer portal after spring practices.

Kansas fans should brace themselves for another rough year, as its back square one in the rebuilding process, just two years after they attempted to do the same thing.

WynnBET has the Jayhawks listed with the longest odds to win the Big 12 at +5000, and I can think of about two million better ways to waste your money.
