Kenny Pickett Says He's 'Undecided' About Playing for Pittsburgh in Peach Bowl vs. Michigan State
By Ben Heisler
It wouldn't officially be "Bowl Season" if rumors weren't flying around about which star NFL prospects might play or pass in their non-postseason bowls these next several weeks. While the games may not mean much as glorified exhibitions, bettors and the books have every incentive to stay on high-alert.
One game has already created havoc on the calendar. The spread line keeps moving away from the Pittsburgh Panthers ahead of their Peach Bowl game matchup with the Michigan State Spartans on Thursday, Dec. 30 at 7 p.m. EST; and the sports betting world was trying to figure out why.
We now have an answer.
Pittsburgh quarterback and Heisman Trophy contender Kenny Pickett told the Dan Patrick Show that he's not sure of his status to play in the upcoming Peach Bowl game several weeks from today.
“With recent news out of our team, with coach Whipple and everybody ... I’d say I’m undecided right now,” Pickett told Patrick.
“It’s not something I’ve sat down and discussed with my family. It’s been a crazy past couple of days. ... These next couple of days I’ll be able to sit down and figure that out.”
According to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Pickett said he planned to play following their win in the ACC Championship over Wake Forest, but that his feelings may have changed following the decision of his offensive coordinator Mark Whipple to resign earlier this week. Whipple abruptly took the vacant coordinator job for the University of Nebraska earlier today.
After a slight move earlier in the week from Pittsburgh -4 down to -3, the betting markets have now moved the Panthers to a pick 'em with the Spartans at WynnBET Sportsbook. The original total opened at 63.5, but has not been re-opened at WynnBET as of right now.
