Kevin De Bruyne Favored to Win Player of the Tournament Ahead of Euro Knockout Stage
The bracket is set and the 2020 UEFA European Football Championship is set to begin its elimination stage of the tournament.
France and Italy sit atop the odds list to be crowned kings of Europe on WynnBET, but it's also released updated odds to be named Best Player of the Tournament.
Before we get into the latest odds to win the award, allow me to pat myself on the back. Before the group stage started, I wrote an article naming my top three picks to be named Player of the Tournament, and two of the three now sit in the top three in the updated list of odds. I’m not going to celebrate quite yet, but if you tailed those plays, we’re in good shape heading into the knockout stage.
All odds list below are as per WynnBET.
Odds to be named the UEFA Euro 2020 Player of the Tournament:
- Kevin De Bruyne +900
- Frenkie De Jong +1000
- Kylian Mbappe +1000
- Romelu Lukaku +1100
- Christiano Ronaldo +1200
- N’golo Kante +1500
- Paul Pogba +1500
- Marcel Sabitzer +2000
- Simon Kjaer +2000
- Leandro Trossard +2000
Kevin De Bruyne is the new betting favorite
Belgium’s Kevin De Bruyne is the new favorite to win Player of the Tournament at +900 odds. I have him out as my second pick in my pre-tournament article at +2000, so it’s nice to see the jump in odds. De Bruyne missed the first match of the tournament, but made his presence known against Finland and Denmark, notching one goal and two assists.
If Belgium makes a run at the Championship, it will be in large part to De Bruyne’s stellar play.
Kylian Mbappe hanging around
Kylian Mbappe has yet to record a goal or an assist in the tournament through the group stage, but his presence alone has been key for France upfront. With the French being the betting favorites heading into the knockout stage, Mbappe will play a key role to their success.
Expect him to find the back of the net sooner rather than later.
Christiano Ronaldo has taken advantage of penalties
Christiano Ronaldo, or as some people call him, Christiano Penaldo, has done what he does best this tournament which is capitalizing on penalty kicks. He leads the Euros in goals, but three of the five have come via penalty kicks.
Ronaldo’s biggest obstacle in winning the award is Portugal's path to the finals after finishing third in Group F. Portugal will be playing against Belgium in the Round of 16, which will be as tough a test as any.
