The Chicago Bears picked up a big-time win in Week 3, but they lost arguably their best offensive player in the process.

Running back David Montgomery exited the game after receiving just three carries with injuries to his right knee and ankle.

"He's going to be day-to-day, so that's a positive," Bears head coach Matt Eberflus said following the game. "We'll see where he is tomorrow and re-evaluate it from there. It's a positive, for sure."

Losing Montgomery certainly hurts for the Bears, as he’s one of the better running backs in the game, but backup Khalil Herbert seized his opportunity against the Houston Texans, rushing the ball 20 times for 157 yards and two touchdowns.

If Montgomery misses time, Herbert is certainly the first person to consider picking up in fantasy leagues or backing in rushing props, but third-string running back Trestan Ebner also played a role in Week 3.

Khalil Herbert vs. Trestan Ebner: Who Is the Better Prop Target?

Based on their Week 3 usage, it’s clear that Herbert has the upper hand in this committee, touching the ball 22 times in the Bears’ win.

That being said, Ebner still mixed in for seven carries, tallying 23 yards. He’s likely going to be a long shot candidate for anytime touchdown scorer props in Week 4 against the New York Giants.

Herbert has thrived in a starting role before for the Bears, and with the team’s commitment to the run this season, he’s an elite option, especially if you can find him as a touchdown scorer at plus money.

The Bears’ backup running back actually has three rushing scores already this season to Montgomery’s zero.

If Montgomery is forced to miss time, this is pretty clearly Herbert’s job to lose.
