Klay Thompson Could Break Out vs. Timberwolves With Steph Curry Out
By Peter Dewey
Golden State Warriors superstar Stephen Curry will not play against the Minnesota Timberwolves on Sunday, and his absence could provide some betting value on other players in the Golden State offense.
Klay Thompson, who will be playing in his fourth game since returning from a torn ACL and torn Achilles, has seen his player prop for points rise from 14.5 to 17.5 at WynnBET in this matchup.
Thompson has posted 17,14 and 11 points in his first three games back in the lineup before sitting out the team’s win over the Chicago Bulls on a back-to-back.
It’s interesting that WynnBET has moved Thompson’s point total up so much considering Thompson has yet to play more than 20:34 in a game this season, but it’s clear Curry’s absence is expected to give Thompson a bigger role.
Even with Curry playing, Thompson is averaging 14.0 field goal attempts and 6.7 3-point attempts per game this season even though he’s playing just 20.0 minutes per game.
It will be interesting to see how the Warriors replace Curry at point guard, as they could move Jordan Poole back into the starting lineup in this game.
Regardless of the lineup change, Thompson could see increased volume as Golden State’s No. 1 scoring option with Curry out. Andrew Wiggins and Poole will likely see increased touches as well, but this is as great a matchup as any to get Thompson really back into the flow of things.
The Timberwolves have posted the 10th best defensive rating in the NBA this season, but they also play at the league’s fifth-fastest pace, which should mean both teams will get plenty of possessions.
I expect Thompson to hunt his shot tonight with Curry out, and I wouldn't be surprised if he clears this prop at WynnBET.
