Despite having no reason to be so, Knicks backers appear to remain ever optimistic. Somehow, someday, someway, their team will land a star, come hell or high water. Forget about LeBron James and Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving and basically every other star spurning them in free agency. This time, things will be different. At least, that's the way it looks right now.

Amidst renewed trade rumors connecting the Knicks as the lead suitor for Jazz All-Star guard Donovan Mitchell, bettors have been flocking in droves to their digital bookies to make a bet on the, hold your breath, Knicks to win a championship.

Why did that feel like I just said a dirty word?

The Knicks haven't won a title since 1973, but as you can see above, people are betting on them to win it in 2023 and their odds are shrinking as a result. All because of a trade rumor surrounding a player who's never made a NBA Finals appearance.

LOL.

Not all books are the same, of course. At WynnBET, the Knicks opened at +7500 to win the title and remain in the same spot.

This all stems from NBA insider Shams Charania reporting the Knicks are the primary suitor in a trade for Mitchell.

They'd keep emerging star J.T. Barrett and former All-Star Julius Randle in the scenario Charania laid out in addition to the recently acquired Jalen Brunson. However, that trio is still inferior to the depth of talent and established chemistry the Celtics, Bucks, 76ers and even Heat have in the East. And that's not even including the juggernauts out West.

But hey, to each their own. Knicks fans have never been rational. Why start now?
