Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray is the current favorite to win the NFL MVP Award, currently sitting at +450 at WynnBET Sportsbook to take home the hardware. Murray strengthened his MVP case this past week, throwing for 268 yards and two touchdown passes while handing the Los Angeles Rams their first loss.

San Francisco 49ers rookie quarterback Trey Lance stepped in for the injured Jimmy Garoppolo in the Week 4 loss to the Seattle Seahawks and completed nine of 18 passes for 157 yards and two touchdowns.

Murray has been a stud signal caller for years now and Lance doesn’t have a very big track record; not even in college where he played just one full season for the North Dakota State Bison.

WynnBET has Murray’s passing yards prop set at 285.5 yards (Over -125/Under -115) and Lance’s passing yards prop set at 218.5 (Over -125/Under -115).

How will Trey Lance Handle His First Career Start vs. Kyler Murray and the Cardinals?

Both the 49ers and Cardinals passing defenses have done well this year to halt the success of opponent quarterbacks. San Francisco’s defense allows just 234.5 passing yards per game (10th in the NFL) and the Cardinals, just 240.3 passing yards allowed per game (11th in the NFL).

Murray hasn’t thrown for less than 268 passing yards in any game this season, and I have a hard time seeing Lance even reach that number in Week 5 against Arizona.

The 49ers will face a Cardinals defense that is allowing 135.8 rushing yards per game (26th in the NFL), so I could see head coach Kyle Shanahan to heavily utilize his carousel of running backs to take pressure off the rookie quarterback.

When it comes to passing yards, Murray will have more than Lance. WynnBET has Murray’s rushing yards prop set at 32.5 (Over -125/Under -115) and Lance’s rushing yards prop at 44.5 (Over -125/Under -115).

Lance won’t keep up with Murray in the air, but Lance could outpace Murray on the ground.
