The Utah Jazz has been arguably the biggest surprise of the 2022-2023 season, out to a 8-3 start despite moving Donovan Mitchell and Rudy Gobert this offseason.

The upstart Jazz now face the lowly Los Angeles Lakers, who were motivated to compete this season, but are 2-7 on the year with far more star power.

Will the Jazz continue their surprising start and can the Lakers round into form on the second half of a back-to-back?

Here are the odds for Monday's matchup:

Lakers vs. Jazz Odds, Spread and Total

Lakers vs. Jazz Prediction and Pick

The Lakers continue to be an uneven roster, mired by poor shooting around the likes of LeBron James. The team is fifth in points allowed per 100 possessions but are far and away the worst offense in the league by the same metric. The team does play at the fastest pace in the league, which has led to their totals continuing to be set near 230, but they continue to trend towards an under group, 4-5 on the year.

They go to Utah, who has been a revelation under first year head coach Will Hardy. The Jazz are top 10 on both offense and defense in terms of points per possessions but the team also trends towards the under often, 4-7 on the year.

The Lakers' pace inflates their totals, but frankly the shot making continues to haunt them. Los Angeles has an effective field goal percentage of 49.1% this season, and on the second night of a back-to-back, I can't expect them to hold up in Utah.
