We've got a battle of two teams going in polar opposite directions as the 29-39 Los Angeles Lakers take on the 40-30 Minnesota Timberwolves at 8:00 PM EST tonight.

Karl-Anthony Towns dropped a franchise-record 60 points in his last outing while the Timberwolves have won and covered the spread in eight of nine to jump squarely into the Western Conference playoff race.

Los Angeles, on the other hand, is just waiting for the season to end at this point. They're 5-15 in their last 20 and a disastrous 2-8 against the spread (ATS) in their last 10.

Can LeBron James will the Lakers to a victory they desperately need or will the Timberwolves keep the good times rolling and effectively end Los Angeles' playoff hopes?

Lakers vs. Timberwolves Prediction and Pick

I'm not sure you can make this line high enough. Quite frankly, at this moment in time, the Timberwolves are the best team in basketball. I know, I know, it sounds crazy. But it's true.

Over their last 10 games, Minnesota has the 2nd-best offense and defense while leading the league in net rating. Their net rating of 12.5 would easily lead the league over the full season. I'll admit, most of these games have come against bad teams. But I've got great news! The Lakers also happen to be a bad team!

Los Angeles has the third-worst net rating in their last 15 thanks to a bottom-five offense and defense. Literally nothing is going well for them and they haven't won a road game since January 25th. That's insane. They've failed to cover the spread in four in a row away from home by an average of just under 17 points per game, so they're getting absolutely smoked.

The Lakers have quit on the season and everyone can see it. Minnesota, meanwhile, picked the best possible time to turn into a juggernaut and should scare the rest of the Western Conference. Give me the Timberwolves to keep rolling in a blowout. It took some time, but this is absolutely one of the best teams in basketball right now.

Pick: Timberwolves -9 (-110)
