The 2021 MLB season is off and running with contenders starting out strong and a few surprises in the standings as well.

The Dodgers have started out just as they should. They're 5-2 and atop the NL West. This loaded roster is the favorite on WynnBET to win the World Series at +300 odds. The New York Yankees (+500) and San Diego Padres (+800) are right on their heels, though. A handful of other teams have legit hopes of knocking the Dodgers off as well.

The Dodgers reacted to a surprising Opening Day loss against the Colorado Rockies by ripping off five straight wins. Their stacked lineup is currently averaging the fourth-most runs per game (6.29) to start the season, which is a great sign for their season-long production. LA's improved rotation featuring new arrival Trevor Bauer also has them near the top 10 in fewest run allowed per game.

The Yankees have started slow at 3-3, but they're working in key pieces, so they're sure to be scary once at full strength. The Padres look like the top team they were projected to be before the season, though they'll have to weather through an extended absence without star Fernando Tatis Jr. New arrival Ha-Seong Kim is in line for an expaded role in Tatis' absence.

The Minnesota Twins (+2500) are a team to watch out for with a 4-2 start to the season. The Houston Astros (+3000) have blocked out their haters so far and seem destined to compete with a 5-1 record as well.

Two surprise teams currently own the best records in their divisions. The Philadelphia Phillies (+5000) and Cincinnati Reds (+6000) are both 5-1 and could be dark horses in the World Series race if they continue their play.

The Dodgers remain the team to beat in the majors to start this season. Though there's already a few teams staking their claims as threats to unseat LA in what is sure to be an entertaining 2021 campaign.
