LeBron James Has Enticing Chance at Triple-Double
By Peter Dewey
Tonight, we add a new chapter in the LeBron James and Steph Curry rivalry, as they face off for a chance to earn the No. 7 seed in the Western Conference.
It’s not the NBA Finals, but tonight’s matchup between two of the games' best could not have worked out better for the NBA. James looks to be healthy, as he returned from his ankle injury this past weekend, and Curry has improved his chances (they’re still slim) at winning the league’s MVP award.
Even though he’s only played in 45 games this season, LeBron has suited up for all three games against the Golden State Warriors. The four-time champion has an enticing player prop tonight, as he is +600 to record a triple-double on WynnBET. The +600 is a severe underdog, as WynnBET has the odds set at -1000 for James to NOT record a triple-double in the play-in game.
At those odds, it’s hard not to think about James’ chances of putting up a triple-double in a game Los Angeles certainly wants to win to secure a playoff spot in the West. James has recorded just five triple-doubles this season, but he did record one against the Warriors on March 15th.
LeBron is no Russell Westbrook, but he is averaging 25.0 points, 7.7 rebounds and 7.8 assists per game this season. WynnBET set his projected rebounds on Wednesday at 7.5 and the OVER (-130) is the favorite. James also has a 8.5 assist projection tonight, so it’s not crazy to think he could hit the OVER on both and pull off a triple-double.
The Lakers will likely use tonight’s game as a tune up for their potential playoff series, and we know that James is a different player when it comes to the postseason. LeBron set a career-high with five playoff triple-doubles last postseason, and he’s also playing a team that is down one of its better perimeter defenders in Kelly Oubre.
With fewer bodies to throw at James, he could be in line for a big game against a team that he has shot 51.2 percent against this season. The Lakers are 5.5-point favorites (-110) on WynnBET and the Lakers have a nice correlation between James’ triple-doubles and wins in his three years with the team.
LeBron has recorded 26 triple-doubles as a Laker and the team is 21-5 in those games. The Lakers are clear favorites with James and Anthony Davis both healthy, and as long as Curry and the Warriors keep it close, LeBron should have a nice opportunity to set the tone for the Lakers’ playoff run.
You could do a lot worse than +600 for James’ chances to stuff the stat sheet tonight.
