Let's Set Odds on Which Team Will Earn No. 1 Pick in NFL Draft

The NFL season is still young, but we already know who is going to be at the bottom of the standings. Tanking isn’t as accepted (or as easy to do) in the NFL as it is in the NBA, but there are certainly teams that are going to start positioning themselves for the No. 1 overall pick.

Here at BetSided, we sometimes put the hat of oddsmakers on and create the odds ourselves. WynnBET hasn’t posted these odds yet, so I’m going to create the odds for which team will earn the No. 1 pick.

Here are the four teams that are officially on watch for the No. 1 overall pick.

Detroit Lions

  • Current Record: 0-5
  • Current Win Total Line: 3.5 (Over:+110/Under:-135)
  • Hypothetical Odds +350

The Lions have to be the favorite for this. They just can’t seem to get out of their own way. Dan Campbell went from talking about breaking kneecaps during the preseason to talking about having his heart broken that they can’t win a game. The Lions are 0-5 and have had several wins slip from their fingers. While some may say the day will come where their luck turns around, I don't see it happening

Jacksonville Jaguars

  • Current Record: 0-5
  • Current Win Total Line: 3.5 (Over:-110/Under:-110)
  • Hypothetical Odds +400

The Jaguars have the 3rd-easiest remaining schedule in the league, but the controversy surrounding Urban Meyer is not a good look. The Jaguars still have to face the Texans, who might have Tyrod Taylor back by then. Jacksonville couldn’t beat Cincinnati on a Thursday night and clearly showed that Meyer isn’t the coach they will rally around. If the Jaguars can’t figure out how to get on the same page, they could have back-to-back No. 1 overall picks.

New York Jets

  • Current Record: 1-4
  • Current Win Total Line: 4.5 (Over:-105/Under:-115)
  • Hypothetical Odds +500

Out of the four teams I’ve listed, the Jets have the highest win total projection. They've looked competent in the last two weeks -- despite the loss to the Falcons. New York has the 6th-easiest remaining schedule. With games against the Texans and Jaguars, the Jets could win a couple games and lose out on the tiebreakers.

Houston Texans

  • Current Record: 1-4
  • Current Win Total Line: 3.5 (Over:+110/Under:-105)
  • Hypothetical Odds +700

The Houston Texans nearly got their second win of the season last week against the New England Patriots, and Davis Mills looked solid. The rookie quarterback finally played well before the Texans choked in the second half. Houston is expecting to get Tyrod Taylor back at some point this season. In the six quarters Taylor was the quarterback, Houston won a game and were neck-and-neck with the Cleveland Browns.

Houston may not win many games, but it won’t be at the bottom of the list.
