Let's Set Odds: What Team Will Aaron Judge Play for Next Season?
By Joe Summers
Aaron Judge may lead MLB in home runs and the betting market for AL MVP over at WynnBET Sportsbook, but don't go rushing to buy a new Judge Yankees jersey any time soon. Unless you like to wear jerseys of players that are no longer on that team, that is.
After doing everything short of waving a neon sign that reads "I'M LEAVING THE YANKEES," Judge left little doubt at the All-Star Game about his plans to test the free agency waters after this season.
With contract negotiations at a stand-still and Judge indicating he wants out, it's time for a fun game of "Let's Set Odds!"
Odds for Aaron Judge's Next Team
- Yankees +150
- Giants +250
- Dodgers +500
- Mets +700
- Cubs +1100
- The Field +1200
Yankees: +150
The Yankees have to be the favorite, given Judge has spent his entire career there and is likely to win MVP in pinstripes.
Judge has a chance to be the best Yankee of the era, which is significant, but his comments and New York's not-so-subtle chase of Juan Soto seem to indicate we're coming to the end of the relationship.
San Francisco Giants: +250
Judge is from the Bay Area, loves the Giants, and the organization has the payroll and assets to make an acquisition happen. Their inconsistent lineup and poor defense have been the Giants' biggest issue this year, while they also lack star power.
MLB's home run leader would instantly help all three problems, making the Giants perhaps the most intriguing option on the board.
Los Angeles Dodgers: +500
The Dodgers seemingly acquire every star player available, or at least come close, so they have to be in the conversation.
If they miss out on Soto, Judge is a solid consolation prize.
New York Mets: +750
Basically, any team that's in on Soto will also be in on Judge. Soto can only sign with one team, so whoever loses out won't want to go home empty-handed.
I'm not sure Judge would switch over to the other New York team, but the Mets are obviously well-positioned to compete and have tons of money to spend. Plus, he wouldn't have to move his things very far.
Chicago Cubs: +1100
I don't think this one is particularly likely, but there aren't a ton of teams with the payroll to sign Judge to the extension he's asking for. The Cubs have spent a few seasons stockpiling assets and spare cash, and seem ready to pounce on the upcoming free agent market.
It's not hard to imagine Judge becoming the face of the next era of Cubs' contenders.
The Field: +1200
Maybe a team like the Twins, Blue Jays or Phillies decide they'll go all-in on Judge. Perhaps even my Kansas City Royals will get in the mix!! Just kidding, we don't believe in novelties like good players.
Judge's career year is distracting a bit from his free agency, so we haven't heard a lot of reports tying him to other teams. That'll likely change as we approach the offseason, so stay tuned to BetSided as we bring you the latest news and updates.
