Let’s Set Odds: What Team Will Aaron Judge Sign With This Offseason?
By Josh Yourish
Aaron Judge had a historic season for the New York Yankees in 2022, but after another ALCS failure, it might be time for big changes in the Bronx. Aaron Judge is a free-agent and will obviously be the most highly sought after player on the market. The Yankees have deep pockets, but maybe some other team will pry Judge away and his last moment in pinstripes will be the final out of the ALCS
It’s still early, but let’s set odds for where Aaron Judge will be playing in 2023.
Let’s Set Odds: What Team will Sign Aaron Judge
- New York Yankees -200
- San Francisco Giants +400
- New York Mets +700
- Los Angeles Dodgers +850
New York Yankees -200 (Implied Odds 66.7%)
It’s the Yankees. Anytime there is a big free-agent on the market, they have to be one of the favorites to sign the player, and this time that player has spent his entire career in the Bronx. After another ALCS exit, Brian Cashman almost has to bring back his biggest star. They have deeper pockets than almost anyone in the sport and whenever the Yankees have a big star, they usually lock the guy up. The only case against it is the fact that they haven’t been able to strike a deal yet. Judge is 30 years old and just had his best season ever, maybe the Yankees are worried that they are paying for past performance and let Judge walk.
San Francisco Giants +400 (Implied Odds 20%)
If Judge is to walk, it might be all the way across the country. He is from Sacramento and went to college at Fresno State. This would be a move back home, and we know that San Francisco has been in on recent high priced free-agents. If San Fran does lure him, it wouldn’t be the first time that the Giants acquired the top slugger in the MLB.
New York Mets +700 (Implied Odds 12.5%)
This team is so expensive already, but we have learned that Steve Cohen doesn’t really care how big of a check he has to write. The Mets flamed out to end the regular season and got dispatched from the playoffs by an 89-win Padres team. The ultimate offseason win for the Mets would be to steal the Yankees biggest star and put him on the subway from the Bronx over to Queens.
Los Angeles Dodgers +850 (Implied Odds 10.53%)
Talk about a high priced team that flamed out in the playoffs. LA won 111 games and couldn’t get out of the divisional series. If there is a high-priced free agent than the Dodgers must be mentioned, but I think it is a little bit more likely that the Mets or Giants snag him. Maybe the Dodgers get antsy after another disappointing finish to the year.
