The Detroit Lions have been rumored to be interested in running back Todd Gurley, but that doesn’t mean D’Andre Swift won’t have a major role in 2021.

Swift, who showed flashes last season as a rookie, said he would embrace the addition of Gurley, but Lions offensive coordinator seems to already have multiple ways to get Swift involved.

"He has natural hands," Lynn said of Swift. "He's learning coverage and how to read coverages and sit in zones and run through lanes and things like that. He's doing good. We can use him in a plethora of ways, in my opinion. I like his skillset so far."

The Lions have a win projection of just five games on WynnBET this coming season, and they are expected to be one of the last NFL teams to win a game.

However, finding a way to maximize Swift’s talent may be Detroit’s easiest path to relevance. After losing Marvin Jones and Kenny Golladay this offseason, the Lions will need to rely on Swift and T.J. Hockenson to carry the playmaking on offense.

Swift will also have to compete with Jamaal Williams in the backfield, but the second-year back will have an opportunity to earn as many touches as he can handle.

"I'm about touches and how can I get guys touches," Lynn said. "Whether it's throwing it to them, quick passes, or handing it off to them, both of those guys (Swift and Williams) have done an outstanding job of showing me what they can do in the running game and in the passing game so far."

Last season, Swift appeared in 13 games (starting four) and ran for 521 yards. He also caught 46 passes for 357 yards and a pair of scores.

Detroit took Swift in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft, and it will be crucial for the Lions' future that he continues to develop as a valuable dual-threat out of the backfield alongside quarterback Jared Goff.
