Lions vs. Patriots Prediction: Detroit’s Offense Pushes Them Over Rookie QB

The Detroit Lions are fresh off the highest scoring game thus far, losing to the Seattle Seahawks 48-45. They’ll take their top scoring offense on the road for Week 5 as they try to rebound vs. the New England Patriots. 

New England had to go to third-string quarterback Bailey Zappe last week after Brian Hoyer left the game with a head injury. While Mac Jones has been taking snaps, his status is still up in the air.

If Zappe gets the nod, can he take down the Lions and get his first NFL win at Gillette Stadium?

New England has gone from a 2.5-point favorite to a 3.5-point favorite. The total has also moved down from 47 to 45.5.

Lions vs. Patriots Best Bet and Prediction 

This is my favorite play of the week.

I get that it’s Bill Belichick at home and the Lions' defense is atrocious. However, Detroit has the best offense in the league in several categories. They’re No. 1 in points and yards per game, points and yards per play and in touchdowns per game. The Lions will force Bailey Zappe (if he starts with Mac Jones questionable) to put at least 30 points on the board, and I’m not too confident in that happening. 

New England is 22nd in points per game and 23 in opponent points per game, putting up unimpressive on either side of the ball. While Zappe made some plays in last week’s near-upset on the road vs. the Green Bay Packers, I’m still skeptical he’ll be able to adjust to a full-time role so easily. 

Detroit is also 3-1 ATS this season, only losing last week’s game. The Lions are aggressive, have weapons and if Amon-Ra St. Brown and D’Andre Swift play, more talented.
